Projects submitted to the Ethics Committee for review must be assignable to the following categories:

Studies Category 1
e.g. retrospective data evaluations, studies with questionnaires, evaluations from residual quantities, no or only minimally invasive study-related measures (e.g. blood sampling, physical examination of the patient, X-ray, etc.)

Studies category 2
So-called “NIS” (non-interventional studies): Use of a medicinal product or medical device approved in Austria within the scope of the approval indication. Studies with recognised and published surgical methods or treatments that go beyond the minimally invasive character.

Studies category 3
Typical AMG or MPG studies: Marketing authorisation studies for medical devices or medicinal products not authorised in Austria.
Depending on the category, there are different documents to be submitted and observed, and different procedures to be followed.

Processing fees
For the processing of applications by the Ethics Committee of SFU MED, the processing fees suggested by the Forum of Austrian Ethics Committees will be charged. Details on the processing fees for the respective studies can be found in the information sheet (pdf).

Application for waiver of processing fees
In the case of non-commercially sponsored academic studies, an application for waiver of processing fees (pdf). can be submitted.
